Claire Ryan is 26, originally from Cork, and this year took part in her first Vhi Women's Mini Marathon — and she's visually impaired. “I need a long white stick to get around by myself,” she says. “I can see very, very little out my right eye, like colours and big shapes but it's very limited.”

In 2013, Suzanne Alcock-Thompson set up a free running group in Swords. She’d been walking the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon for many years, but was determined to up her game and jog it.
The Harlequin Hotel in Castlebar is in the heart of Mayo: minutes from Westport Town. It offers the perfect base to sample all that the West of Ireland has to offer.

There is no better way to prepare for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon than by doing a practice run of the actual route itself. Obviously this isn’t an option for anyone living outside of Dublin but for Team Vhi & The Herald’s Lisa & Annmarie Boon who live just around the corner in Ringsend it was a great opportunity for them to check out the course and to give themselves a boost before the big day.
