The 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is officially open for entries from Wednesday 11th February. Over 40,000 participants are expected to walk, jog or run the 10K route through Dublin city on Monday, 1st June 2015.

The Vhi Support Team were also unveiled today and include international athlete David Gillick, fitness enthusiast and DJ Louise Heraghty, Vhi’s Dr Ui May Tan, and one of Ireland’s most popular comedians, Maeve Higgins, who will support participants every step of the way to the 2015 event with a combination of expert advice and fun tips.

Comedienne Maeve Higgins who will be leading Team Vhi on race day and will be sharing her experiences of training for the race stated “I am thrilled to be an ambassador for the 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon. I’ve taken part in the race before and it is so much fun, you forget you’re exercising. It’s magic! There are women everywhere - all sorts of us, doing our thing. That thing may be running, walking, laughing, chatting –all the while supporting amazing charities! I am hoping the organisers will give me, an ambassador, a head start. If they do, I’m pretty confident I can win this race”.
Former Irish Sprinter, European Champion and MasterChef winner David Gillick will be combining his love of cookery with his athletics expertise to provide healthy eating plans and recipes for the 16 weeks leading up to the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon. David will be preparing sample meal planners and sharing his favourite recipes to support women all over the country with their training.
Personal trainer and radio personality Louise Heraghty has created three tailored training programmes to help every participant achieve their personal best on race day. There will be a training programme for walkers, one for absolute beginners who have never run 10K before and one for improvers who have run 5K or 10K and would like to improve their performance. Each week Louise will share her training plan for the next seven days, along with her top tips and advice.
Finally, Vhi’s Dr Ui May Tan, who has provided medical support and advice to many of Ireland’s leading races, will be providing medical advice to those training for the 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon.
The Vhi Support Team will be sharing their weekly training and food plans in The Herald on www.VhiWomensMiniMarathon.ie and on the newly launched Vhi WMM 2015 App The App, which is available free in both the App and Play Stores, is a new addition and will allow runners to access their weekly training and nutrition plans on the go, keep a record of their runs and progress over the weeks, as well as receiving updates on the 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon in the run up to race day.
Women can enter the 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon online by visiting www.VhiWomensMiniMarathon.ie or alternatively postal application forms will be available in The Herald every Wednesday and Saturday. Entry is open from Wednesday, 11th February and will close as soon as the maximum number is reached so those interested in running are being urged to enter as early as possible to ensure they get to participate in this unique event.
