One of the charities that benefits from the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is The Alzheimer Society of Ireland - they had 300 women raising funds for them in 2016.

“We've been involved for as long as we can remember and look forward to this event every summer!” says Mairéad Dillon, Interim Head of Fundraising for ASI. "The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is a very important date on the calendar.” This year’s target is €50,000; in the past five years, over €300,000 has been raised.

More than 55,000 people in Ireland are living with dementia, who are being cared for by 50,000 family carers, as over 63 per cent of people with dementia wish to stay at home for as long as possible. “A lot of our supporters would have an affiliation with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and come from all across Ireland,” Mairéad reports.

The charity hosted pre and post-race events and were at the finish line to cheer everyone home, and will certainly be looking forward to next year's participation in the event!
