In this week’s Mini Interview feature we spoke to 2012 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon winner, Linda Byrne, for her thoughts on this special event and girl power.
Why do you compete in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon?
The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is one of my favourite races. It’s a great opportunity to represent all the women in Ireland – girl power! I also love the atmosphere of the event.

What is the importance of races like the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon for you?
The funds being raised for charities are very important but it also encourages women to take part in exercise which is so important for health.
When do you start preparing for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon?
I train all year round but I prepare for this from about two months out.
What’s your pre-race routine?
I would usually have breakfast three hours before. I follow this with an easy warm-up and stretching before finally preparing mentally for the race.
How do you define a ‘successful’ Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon?
For me it’s seeing all the women of Ireland taking part and enjoying themselves. It’s the perfect event for their health and wellbeing as well as benefiting all the charities represented.
What do you admire about the people who take part in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon?
I admire the positive atmosphere that everyone brings on the day, and their determination to get through the event for their chosen cause.
Who do you think is going to win the 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon?
