Train-proof your make-up

You're in the zone, training seriously, and the last thing you need to worry about is looking like a panda. If you have to do your face, make sure it'll last.

It's unavoidable: your big meeting ran late and you've got to go straight from work to training. You haven't even got a spare second because you're in danger of holding up your running/jogging/walking squad. You knew this might happen, so like the genius you are, you chose to make up with the long day in mind.

It used to be that mascara was the main class of product that came in the water repelling version, and I'll be honest, I saved it for weddings and funerals because it was such a nightmare to remove. Here in the 21st century, though, we now enjoy advances in technology that not only encompass all the make-up you need to create your look, but also the means with which to remove it without losing layers of skin.

I've tried, tested and taken to my heart Clinique's Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer (€33) because it absolutely works. I'm not a runner but am an equestrienne and I vouch for this wholeheartedly: it does two jobs and it allows the pores to breath without clogging — and it simply doesn't move once you apply it. I use a good setting powder too, like Smashbox's Photo Set Finishing Powder (€26) a fine, white silica powder that also has SPF.

I find blush in general to be tricky as it can look too flat and unnatural. Multi-toned formulations, like Max Factor's Creme Puff Blush (€11.49) are super because the mix of pigments create a flattering contour effect and blend in with your skin tone. Added bonus: lasts ages but when it does fade, does so gracefully.

And if you're so pressed for time that you've forgotten you even have lippy on, then I'd say make sure it's one of Rimmel London's The Only 1 (€8.99) new shades. They have staying power without drying, because they are as emollient as a lip balm. They are pretty much perfect.

Finally when it's time to take it all off, Vichy's Pureté Thermale Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover (€13.75) is... words almost fail me, it so good. The bi-phase liquid will vanquish the smokiest eye, in one cotton per eye. It is amazing. As for the rest, I love a good facial oil, and L'Occitane's Immortelle Oil Make-up remover (€26) will make short work of the rest of your maquillage — and it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth, too!
