#Sisterhood - Mandy O'Brien from Tipperary is fundraising for Cuan Saor (Safe Haven)
Hi all, I'm Mandy O'Brien, from Carrick on Suir, Co. Tipperary and I have been participating in the VHI Women's Mini Marathon for a few years with my sister Caroline and am delighted to have been chosen to be part of the sisterhood for Tipperary!
The atmosphere at the event is unreal, from the moment you get into the City Centre and see all the ladies on their way to the start line, to all the spectators giving you high fives and cheers along the way, to the feeling when you cross the finish line the "I'VE DONE IT" and celebratory dance... What an experience.
Also this year is our first year participating for a cause and we have chosen to run for Cuan Soar, Women's Refuge in Clonmel. Cuan Saor (Safe Haven) was established in 1994 to offer support to women who were experiencing domestic violence. The refuge provides short term accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic violence. No only that, they also provide Counselling, Court Accompaniment, Aftercare and much more.
Back in April we joined our local running group "Fitness with Emer" run by Emer O'Brien in Piltown. Emer trained us to get from our couches to 5k without stopping and we have a massive thank you to say to her. No way could we have done it without her positivity and encouragement! We made many new friends at Emer's sessions and we now have our own little group where we train around Carrick on Suir& Piltown during the week when we aren't running the Iverk Showground fields with Emer.
After Emer got us to our 5k Caroline and I managed to persuade our friends to join us in running the VHI Womens Mini Marathon on June 3rd. Without Emer's help none of us would have the confidence to attempt it :)
We would love it if anyone wants to join us, feel free to give us a shout and remember... KEEP ON SMILING!
Here is the link to our gofundme, if you would like to donate a little to help us on our way we woud dreally appreciate it, no donation is too small!
