One of the World’s Largest All-Female Events Hits Dublin Streets

June 1st, 2015 – 37,000 women took to Dublin’s city centre streets today to participate in the 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon.  The event, which is one of the world’s largest all-female events of its kind, sees runners, walkers and joggers of all abilities complete a 10km route and participate in one of the Ireland’s largest fund-raising activities of the year with participants raising much-needed funds for hundreds of causes around the country.

The 2015 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon was won by Maria McCambridge in a time of 34.03. Ann Marie McGlynn was second across the finish line 34.42 and Catherina McKiernan secured third place in 34.46.  Sinead Kane won the Visually Impaired Category in a time of 45.45.

This year saw Vhi come on board as title sponsor and agree to partner with the event for the coming five years.  Speaking at the activity John O’Dwyer, Chief Executive, Vhi Healthcare, said “Vhi is very proud to support this terrific event and would like to thank all of those who have worked so hard to make it such a success.  We want to extend our huge congratulations to (insert winner) and to the thousands of ladies who crossed the finish line today. This is a phenomenal event that promotes health and fitness around the country as well as raising much needed funds for hundreds of worthy causes. We look forward to supporting this event in the years ahead and helping it to go from strength to strength.”

Speaking for the Women’s Mini Marathon, Kathy Endersen Deputy CEO said that “More than 1,000 volunteers and stewards are involved in making this event so successful and I would like to thank them for their time and commitment. Also without the support of our sponsors we could not deliver such a special day for thousands of women and charities.  We are delighted to welcome Vhi on board this year. They have done great work to enhance the experience for the participants”

Before the start today, the Power Team from Elverys Sports took to the stage to bring participants through their paces in a Warm Up. This was followed by the Nissan Micra car presentation by Jeanne McGann, Head of Marketing and Communications at Nissan Ireland to (enter Winners name) who was chosen randomly from 37,000 participants. 2fm went out live on the day and entertained participants from their Roadcaster before the start and after the finish.
