Charity Spotlight: Julian Benson CF Foundation
Aims to provide much-needed support and services to CF warriors and their families
We'd like to know about your charity. Tell us who you are and what inspired the creation of your charity.
The Julian Benson CF Foundation was established in 2018 to provide vital support for people living with cystic fibrosis and their loved ones. Founder Julian Benson lived with CF for over 50 years and knew first hand the challenges the condition can pose. Through tireless fundraising, the Foundation was able to purchase and renovate a house in Dublin 6 which opened in 2025. Tranquillity House provides four apartments where families from all over the country can stay while their loved one with CF is undergoing (sometimes very lengthy) treatment in Dublin hospitals.
What impact does your work have on the community?
Because people living with cystic fibrosis must be mindful of potentially deadly cross-infection if they meet one another, hospital stays are especially isolating, as they cannot interact with other patients. Time and again, we have had people with CF tell us that having their families visit them and knowing their support system is nearby is the main thing that keeps them going during these long days. When a person with CF is undergoing hospital treatment, distance will often dictate that families are separated for long periods of time. Tranquillity House will guarantee that a child’s parents, and even siblings, can be with them throughout their treatment. The therapeutic value of family togetherness cannot be overstated, and the financial and logistical burden eased by staying at Tranquillity House provides immense relief to families at an already challenging time.
Would you like to share a success story that really represents what you do?
We have not yet approached any families who have stayed at the house for public comment, but will be doing so in the coming months.
How has being part of the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon supported your charity's mission?
Year over year, the number of runners fundraising for JBCFF at the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon has increased. We have representatives whose lives have been touched by CF in various ways including a CF nurse, the mother of a child living with CF, and a woman who herself has CF!
