#womenwithimpact - Karen, Irish Heart Foundation

We are sharing some of the amazing stories behind the t-shirts that many women wear at the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon this year for our Every T-shirt Tells A Story video series, which is part of our #WomenwithImpact campaign.

This week’s video features Karen Ward from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, who will be wearing an Irish Heart Foundation t-shirt at the 2019 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon.

Karen has taken part in the event for many years, and in 2018 took part to raise funds for the Irish Heart Foundation.  Just over a month after doing the Mini Marathon, she had a heart scan and was told that she had to have open heart surgery, due to a congenital condition.  Her surgery took place last November in the Mater Hospital, and was a great success.

Karen has already returned to training, and will be taking part in the 2019 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon, once again wearing her Irish Heart Foundation t-shirt – but this year is a bit different, as this year she will be doing it for herself.
