#womenwithimpact - Nicola, Co. Longford

My name is Nicola Reilly, I live in Dromard in Co Longford. This year myself and my sister in laws, their cousin Colleen, and a bunch of friends and family are all doing the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon in Aid of the Kevin Bell Foundation.

In November Colleen’s son Danny who was only 21, was killed in New York, it was an event that has left Colleen, her family, extended family and all Danny’s friends absolutely devastated. When somebody dies abroad the sheer magnitude of what it takes to get them home is hard to fathom... But when we spoke to the Kevin Bell Foundation they were amazing and arranged everything. Losing someone so young and so full of life is an indescribable experience, Danny has left a whole in so many peoples’ lives. But his family and friends are so grateful to The Kevin Bell foundation that we want to do our best to give back to them so that they can continue to offer the amazing support and service to other families who find themselves in need like we did.

I am involved in the Dromard GAA Healthy Clubs committee and the Dromard Community Games committee, and both groups of wonderful woman are also going to get behind this great event to help us raise funds for the Kevin Bell Foundation in Danny McGee’s name. The amount of women in the area who want to show their support for the McGee family by participating in the Mini Marathon is heart-warming and between us all we will run, jog and walk the event in Memory of Danny. For so many woman to come together to do something positive in a time of such sadness and heartbreak, shows the strength and compassion that woman have for Danny’s Mam and family at this time.
