Charity Spotlight: St. Michael’s House Foundation

Dedicated to enriching the lives of people with disabilities

We'd like to know about your charity. Tell us who you are and what inspired the creation of your charity.

St. Michael’s House Foundation exists to support the incredible children and adults with intellectual disabilities who use St. Michael’s House services every day.

The Foundation was created to ensure sustainable funding for life-enhancing supports, from transport and equipment to inclusive programmes that promote independence, dignity and choice.

Inspired by the determination, joy and resilience of the people we support, the Foundation was established so the wider community could play a meaningful role in helping them live full, connected lives.

What impact does your work have on the community?

Our work has a lasting impact on individuals, families and the wider community.

By funding vital supports such as transport, programmes and inclusive opportunities, we help people with intellectual disabilities take part in everyday life — attending day services, building friendships, accessing education, employment and community activities.

This not only enhances quality of life for those we support, but also builds more inclusive, connected and compassionate communities for everyone.

Would you like to share a success story that really represents what you do?

One of our most powerful success stories is the difference something as simple as transport can make.

Through community fundraising, we recently supported the purchase of a new minibus for one of our services. For the people who use that service, this meant renewed independence — getting to day programmes, social outings, holiday camps and community activities that many of us take for granted.

Seeing the joy, pride and freedom that this brought to the people we support is exactly why we do what we do — turning community kindness into life-changing moments.

How has being part of the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon supported your charity's mission?

Being part of the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon has been incredibly important to our mission.

It brings together an inspiring community of women who fundraise, advocate and stand alongside the people we support. The visibility and funds raised through the event directly enable us to provide vital supports that enhance independence, inclusion and quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities.

Just as importantly, it allows us to share our story, raise awareness and remind people that inclusion is something we can all champion together.
