#WomenwithImpact - Karina Somers – Wexford

”Hi, my name is Karina. I’m an Advanced Nurse Practitioner working and living in Wexford.

This year we are celebrating the year of the Nurse and Midwife. Nursing has come a long way in the last 200 years. I love my job. My aim is to enhance the quality of care to my patients and to improve their patient and families experience.

Health Promotion is a key aspect of my job and advising and encouraging my patients to keep active and have a balance healthy diet. I for one know how difficult this can be whilst juggling a career and family life.

The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon has helped me have an aim while having fun. It makes me practice what I preach. I also want to lead by example for my kids to show exercise can be fun at any age and to enjoy the experience and the event on the day.”

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” . This is to acknowledge and highlight nurses and the value that they bring to healthcare and the lives of those in their communities all around the world.
