#womenwithimpact - Wendy, Co. Meath

My name is Wendy Coyle and it is a great honour to be chosen as the Meath Ambassador for the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon. This year the marathon is been held on my mum’s birthday who passed away in November 2018 from breast & bone cancer. In October of the same year and only 20 days previous, my sister Kim also passed from cancer having fought a short five-month battle with pancreatic cancer. My mum Joanne was a powerful force, she was always positive and always encouraged us to find the good in all situations no matter how difficult.

In her honour and in celebration of her life on what would have been her 68th birthday, my family & friends and anyone wishing to join our team with be walking/running the marathon as a tribute to my mum. My mum and sister had a BRCA 2 gene mutation which made them more susceptible to certain cancers.  It is important for me and my family this year to look after our health for the future. I believe that training for the marathon with my family and friends in my mum’s honour will give me the push I need in 2019 to start my get-fit stay healthy journey. In doing this I hope I can encourage other women to take their first steps to a healthier life. All money raised by our team will go to the Irish Hospice Foundation".
